I went back and forth as to what to post first on this page. Somehow it seems like a pinnacle piece of my blog and yet, it will eventually be lost in other posts and people won’t read this one as much as the newest one. So, what did I pick? The reason as to why I started my IG and this blog.
Why did I start an online presence? I first started my instagram page because my friend Natalia (@nataliamode) encouraged me to join in with her as she had just started one herself. She had posted for a couple months prior to me starting and I was so jealous of all the fun that she was having getting photographed by her husband and planning outfits and I wanted in on that! So I joined back in March of 2019. At first, I didn’t know what direction I would take the page in. I was also concerned that I would pin myself into one niche and that that would be a bad thing. Ultimately, after thrifting a lot with Natalia, I ended up in the sustainable fashion realm and I am so thrilled that I did.
After learning and researching more about all the extremely negative effects that the fashion industry has on the environment, it lead me to make other sustainable switches not only to my closet but also to my life. We stopped using paper towels and instead use reusable rags. We stopped buying Hatfield conventional dog food and switched him to Open Farm sustainably raised food. We stopped buying single use plastics and instead got reusable alternatives. So many wonderful things bounced off of that first switch to sustainable fashion. I now live my life making decisions based on their sustainability. Every purchase that we make, we think about the effect that it has on the environment and if there is a more sustainable option. Obviously, we are not perfect and we do occasionally make decisions based on ease, but typically that’s due to necessity, and it’s also rare.
Fast forward to now, I am now in a transitional part of my life. My hubby and I just moved here to Atlanta, and I have no conventional job. When we were talking about moving here, my wonderful caring husband suggested instead of me finding a regular job that I should instead go all in on my online presence. I should use my time to build my page, learn more about photography, collaborate with wonderful ethical companies, connect with others, and really focus on making a blog. So, here I am. I really hope that you will enjoy following along. As of right now, I know that there won’t be many of you reading this. But that is ok, as I know that things take time to grow. But I know that being here will one day help others make sustainable swaps and that is something that is worth working towards.
